Postgraduate Course will feature ‘lessons from the masters’

This year’s ASGE Postgraduate Course will bring together an outstanding faculty of internationally renowned experts who will share tips for perfecting various endoscopic procedures and incorporating new modalities into clinical practice. The ticketed course, Best Tips, Worst Mistakes: Lessons From the Masters, will be presented in two half-day programs on Sunday and Monday.

The course will highlight evidence-based practice, endoscopic challenges and emerging technologies covering a variety of gastrointestinal conditions, including Barrett’s esophagus, colorectal neoplasia, pancreaticobiliary diseases, IBD and gastrointestinal bleeding, as well as novel interventions such as bariatric endoscopy.

“We’ve assembled an impressive faculty of master endoscopists who will cover a wide variety of challenges and common problems,” said course co-moderator Douglas K. Rex, MD, FASGE, professor of medicine and director of endoscopy in the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Dr. Rex described an endoscopic master as someone who “has a set of solutions that they call on to solve challenges that may be encountered in virtually any procedure.

“Of course, masters make mistakes, too,” he noted, “and they will share some of their worst and what they learned from them.”
Dr. Rex will co-moderate the course with Amitabh Chak, MD, FASGE, professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, OH, and Elizabeth Rajan, MD, FASGE, professor of medicine in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
