The ASGE International Program at DDW^® culminates on Tuesday with four joint symposia, including concurrent sessions with the Australian Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association (AGEA) and the Chinese Society of Gastroenterology (CSGE).

“The practice of gastrointestinal endoscopy is one of the fastest-growing fields in medicine all around the world,” said ASGE International Committee Chair Prasad G. Iyer, MD, MS, FASGE, AGAF, professor of medicine in gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. “The international symposia offer an invaluable opportunity for attendees to get international perspectives on the latest advances that are driving the field.”

Dr. Iyer will co-moderate the ASGE/AGEA International Symposium with AGEA Chair Rajvinder Singh, MBBS, director of gastroenterology and clinical associate professor at Lyell McEwin Hospital and the University of Adelaide, Australia. The 90-minute symposium will feature four presentations covering the current science and best practices in the endoscopic treatment of large and advanced colorectal polyps and early cancer.

Douglas K. Rex, MD, FASGE, AGAF, professor of medicine and director of endoscopy in the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, will discuss advances in endoscopic imaging of malignant polyps. Luke F. Hourigan, MBBS, associate professor of medicine and clinical director of endoscopy at Princess Alexandra Hospital and the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, will share the latest tips and tricks in endoscopic mucosal resection.

Michael J. Bourke, MD, clinical professor of medicine at the University of Sydney and director of gastrointestinal endoscopy at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, Australia, will discuss endoscopic resection of the colon. In the final presentation, Gottumukkala S. Raju, MD, FASGE, the John Stroehlein distinguished professor of gastroenterology and clinical medical director of endoscopy at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, will review complications in the management of colorectal polyps and offer advice for dealing with them.

The ASGE/CSGE International Symposium will feature five presentations on various endoscopic procedures. The session will be co-moderated by Kenneth K. Wang, MD, AGAF, director of the advanced endoscopy group and esophageal neoplasia clinic at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, and Ping-Hong Zhou, MD, of Zhongshan Hospital at Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

In the first presentation, Michelle Anderson, MD, of the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Ann Arbor, will discuss the management of antithrombotics in elective and emergency endoscopy. Next, Liu Side, PhD, of Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China, will discuss endoscopic treatment of IG-4 related disorder.

Enqiang Linghu, MD, of the PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China, will then report on a study looking at endoscopic ultrasonography for the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cystic lesions. Shutian Zhang, MD, of the Beijing Digestive Disease Center, Beijing Friendship Hospital and Capital Medical University, China, will discuss direct peroral cholangioscopy. In the final presentation, Dr. Zhou will discuss endoscopic resection of duodenal lesions.
